Bourail is a commune in the South Province of New Caledonia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean.
Geography
This is a rural town of Grande Terre (Bush). The municipality is located in both the mountains and along the sea beaches are tourist but remain wild, they are a place popular with surfers. The town lies at the confluence of several rivers, is the crossroads of many valleys Boghen, Bacouya, Nessadiou, Nera, Tene, La Pouéo ...

Toponymy
Bourail means "lizard's tail."
This comes from Bu Rhaï in the language ajie, Bu meaning "tail" and Rhaï "the lizard".

This is a young city with half of the population is under 30 years.
Most people Bourail will continue their studies in Nouméa. To avoid this decline in population, the town created more and more schools. There are about 2000 children attending schools up to high school, there is no university.
The inhabitants are called Bouraillais (es), their nickname is "yellow legs" (referring to the birds of the region: blackbirds Moluccas).

Agriculture
Resources are agriculture and livestock, mainly cattle but also pigs, deer, poultry and beekeeping. There are 300 200 hectares of maize and potatoes, we also practice subsistence farming. The town is often considered the "capital of the Bush" and especially "outback" (name given to the rural non Caldoches nouméens), particularly through the annual fair Bourail
Tourism
The beaches are open to all activities of the sea and the lagoon. At the spawning season, they host several species of turtles very guarded. On the beach of Roche Percee, crates are arranged in nests by volunteers to protect the eggs until they hatch. On this coast, skiers and snowboarders will find their vague or, conversely, their body of water sheltered by the reef. Divers or hikers in the palm, can explore the wonders of underwater preserved and now World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
In Gouaro Deva, a huge project that combines economics, ecology and tourism aims to create, north of the Southern Province, a hub of integrated and sustainable development. It is planned for 2013.

Events
Agricultural fair of Bourail
The Trade Fair of Agricultural and Craft Bourail (FEAAB) takes place every year during the weekend for the week of Aug. 15, at Bourail in New Caledonia. This event is very famous for its rodeo. The fair takes place on the racecourse Téné, outside the village of Bourail.
Fireworks
The fireworks display takes place every year on or about July 14 at the stage of the village.
Torch Pacific Games 2011 NC
Following the organization of the Pacific Games in New Caledonia, the "flame of the Games' is spent in several municipalities of the island, including Bourail August 21, 2011. Jean-Pierre AIFA Mayor Bourail, was present and the committee chair Pascale Bastien-Thiry and torchbearers. The flame arrived on horseback and was positioned on the podium near the stadium where speeches and a balloon release have succeeded. Several events and booths were present at the Sports Hall during this special day.
