Borth Animalarium is a small zoo, located in the small Welsh village of Borth, 7 miles north of Aberystwyth in the county of Ceredigion, Mid Wales.

History

The zoo is mainly a refuge for unwanted exotic pets, animals from other zoos made freely available for a variety of reasons, or whose natural environment is under threat.

Animals

Animals at Borth Animalarium include monkeys, wallabies, snakes, iguanas, caimans, fruit bats, spiders, birds including ostriches, pigs, frogs, ocelots, cockroaches, and Geoffroy's cat.^[1]

Controversy

After an investigation by Dyfed-Powys Police, in September 2010 in a hearing at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court, owners Alan and Jean Mumbray admitted not having the correct paperwork for a commercial premises. The couple were fined, and nine restricted license animals are to be confiscated from the park, including the leopard, two lynx and two ring-tailed lemurs.^[2]
