Born-again virgin

An individual can claim to be a born-again virgin, secondary virgin or renewed virgin if, after having engaged in sexual intercourse, s/he makes a commitment not to be sexually active until marriage (or some other point in the future, or indefinitely), whether for religious, moral or practical reasons.

Usage

This term has gained some popularity among evangelical and fundamentalist Christians, who place a strong emphasis upon sexual purity and abstinence from premarital and extramarital relations, based on their literal understanding of the Bible.[1]

Others choose to pursue secondary virginity for non-religious reasons, such as a need to focus on work or school during the current period in their life, or the desire to avoid infection with sexually transmitted diseases.[citation needed]

Surgery

In some Muslim cultures, sexually active females choose to undergo a hymenorrhaphy to restore their hymen and thus physically restore a measure of virginity.[2] Another option is the artificial hymen.
