Borja López Menéndez (born 2 February 1994) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Rayo Vallecano on loan from AS Monaco FC, as a central defender.

Football career

Born in Gijón, López finished his football formation with local Sporting de Gijón. On 18 December 2011 he made his senior debut for the B-side, against Getafe CF B, and he went on to play one more third division match during the season, against UB Conquense.

López made his first-team debut on 1 November 2012, featuring the full 90 minutes in a 1–0 home win against CA Osasuna for the campaign's Copa del Rey.[1] He made his second level debut on the 16th, again starting but in a 2–3 home loss to SD Ponferradina.[2]

On 31 January 2013 López was promoted to the Asturians' first team, alongside Luis Hernández.[3] On 2 August, however, he signed a four-year deal with high-spending AS Monaco FC in Ligue 1, for a 2.2 million fee.[4]
