Boletus rhodopurpureus is an inedible fungus of the genus Boletus, found in coniferous forests mostly near silver fir or spruce on chalk, mainly at higher altitude.
Description
The cap is cushion like; grey or greyish brown when young, later flushing red or dark purple from the rim, up to 12 cm in diameter. The tubes are yellow at first, then turning dark blue when cut. The spores are olive-brown. The stem is rather short, and sometimes very bulbous. The flesh is pale yellow, turning blue when cut.
Similar species
In the warmest regions of central and southern Europe the blood red-capped Boletus dupainii.
