Boivin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Boivin is a surname from France. Most common in the Bacquerville of Normandie and throughout North America due to immigration. Boivin is a combination of the words 'Boi' and 'Vin' from French which mean drink and wine respectively. The surname does not necessarily refer to someone who drinks wine but rather a place, i.e. a place of good wine (similar to the way the Vikings called North America Vinland, or land of good wine). The surname dates back to before the Frank invasion of what is now France. It comes from Gaul and is actually Gaellic in origin. Helping to prove this point is the fact that there are places and surnames very similar in Celtic nations of today, like Bovain of Scotland. May also refer to:
- Arthur Boivin (died 1952), politician in Manitoba, Canada
- Claude Boivin (born 1970), retired Canadian professional ice hockey player
