Blue Ribbon Cup

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Blue Ribbon Cup is awarded to the winning team in AFL home and away round games between AFL clubs Hawthorn and St Kilda. The trophy was named in the memory of two Victoria Police Officers, Sergeant Gary Silk and Senior Constable Rodney Miller, who were killed in the line of duty in August 1998.[1][2]

History

The first match for the Blue Ribbon Cup was held in Round 12 of the 1999 AFL season.

Every year, players and coaches of the two teams wear armbands in the checkered blue and white colours worn by Australian Police.

In addition to the cup, the Man of the Match is awarded the Silk-Miller Medal.

The series is currently tied at 8-8-1.
