Blacktown Hospital (officially known as Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital - Blacktown Campus) is an acute care hospital in Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia. Together with Mount Druitt Hospital and associated community health centres,[1] it forms Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital, which is a part of the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD).[2]

Blacktown hospital has approximately 400 beds. It provides a wide range of health services including:[3]

  • Acute Medical
  • Coronary Care and Coronary Stepdown Unit
  • Diabetes Center
  • Acute Rehabilitation

It operates a 24-hour emergency department and a full Intensive Care Unit and CCU. It also has 24 hour medical imaging and pathology services on site.

The hospital is a teaching hospital of the University of Western Sydney's Blacktown-Mount Druitt Clinical School and University of Sydney's Western Clinical School.

The Hospital campus also includes Bungarribee House, a psychiatric unit that, along with Cumberland Hospital provides mental health services to western Sydney.

Expansion Project

In 2012, the NSW Government announced the $324 million Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital Expansion Project Stage 1.[4] The Blacktown campus projects include:

  • A new sub-acute (step-down) mental health care unit to be called the Melaleuca Unit
  • A new clinical services building for cancer, cardiac, respiratory and aged care including a new cancer care unit
  • A new 600-space car park
  • Infrastructure and service enhancements.

The new clinical services building will open in 2015;further refurbishment of the existing hospital will be completed in 2016. The expansion project will deliver an additional 170 beds for the campus.[5]
