Birkende is a town with a population of 563 (1 January 2013)[1] located in the Kerteminde municipality, on the island of Funen in central Denmark.
The town is most famous for being the birthplace of Hans Tausen (1494–1561), the protagonist of the Danish Reformation. There is a monument to him in the town centre. Birkende's local football team is Birkende BK
