Biophytum sensitivum is a species of plant in the Oxalidaceae family and in the genus Biophytum. It is commonly found in Nepal, India and in other Southeast Asian countries and is used for medicinal purposes in Nepal[1] and in India.Biophytum sensitivum is used as traditional medicine to cure variety of diseases. During the last few decades, extensive research has been carried out to elucidate the chemistry, biological activities, and medicinal applications of B. sensitivum.

Uses

Chemical analysis have shown that the plant parts are rich in compounds which include amentoflavone, cupressuflavone, and isoorientin which are very useful in medicine. Its extracts are antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, radioprotective, chemoprotective, antimetastatic, antiangiogenesis, wound-healing, immunomodulation, anti-diabetic, and cardioprotective in nature.[2]

Activity

Pharmacological screening of the leaves showed importatnt antitumor activity in Dalton's Lymphoma Ascites (DLA).-The various biological activities of B. sensitivum had a revolutionary therapeutic agent to combat life-threatening diseases flourished during the last decade.[2]
