Bingeul Bingeul (Korean title: 빙글빙글; literal meaning Round and Round) is a song performed by South Korean boyband, U-KISS from the group's first full length album, Only One. The song was released on digital format on February 3, 2010 following their album release on the same day.[1]On February 29, 2012 a Japanese version of the song was released as a part of U-KISS's first Japanese album, A Shared Dream.[2]
Background
In an interview with Heo Min Nyeong, U-KISS explained the meaning of the song behind Bingeul Bingeul.[3] The group clarifies that when they sing Man Man Ha Ni, which is their carrier single for their mini album, ContiUkiss, the song gives out a message that says “don’t look U-KISS as an easy group...”. U-KISS is telling people to listen to their song and keep it round and round in their head and ears.[3] The song is accompanied by a heavy beat and an energetic transition of lyrics. People listening to Bingeul Bingeul describe the song as catchy, and addictive. Some vocals of the song are portrayed as an autotune accompanied by metallic instrumentals.[3]
Promotion
Before the full-length album has finalized, the announced carrier single was supposed to be "Without You". On February 3, 2010, Bingeul Bingeul was announced to be the lead single from the group's first full-length album. The full single was released via digital download on South Korean MP3 download sites on February 2 of the same year.[1] The song was first performed on KBS2TV's music show Music Bank on February 3, 2010 but was broadcast in February 5, 2010.[4] The group performed "Bingeul Bingeul" in MBC's Show Music Core on February 6 and in SBS's Inkigayo on February 7.
Just after 1 day of release, U-KISS Only One has made it to #1 on Hanteo charts and is doing well on other music sites, Hottracks and Synnara Records, Evan Records, and in many other offline stores.[5] The hot response is even more eye-catching than Girls' Generation's comeback with "Oh!", which drop at #2.[5]
After various performances in South Korea, Universal Records releases the album in the Philippines on March 28. 2010.[6] Premiere Entertainment Philippines (PEP Inc.) brought U-KISS in Manila for the first time to promote their album. The group had their three-day mall shows in the Philippines and TV Guestings on GMA Network's Party Pilipinas and Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman.[7] U-KISS set the record with the most number of albums sold in a mall event selling up to 5,000 copies of album and earning an estimate of 1 Million Pesos.[7]
The success of U-KISS in the Philippines marked the first major concert of U-KISS, entitled First Kiss Tour in Manila held on June 14, 2010 at the Araneta Coliseum.[8] This was later released in a DVD entitled U-KISS 1st Kiss Tour in Manila DVD.
Music video
The music video was filmed in a filming set in early January 2010. The video has a fair budget and was entirely shot in a studio, predominantly in blue with alternating brighter lights, consistently changing the lighting of the video. The taping was also featured on their reality show, UKiss Vampire. The video shows the members standing in a platform rounding into 360 degrees. The video first begins with the seven members standing while a half-way channel opens the beginning of the song. The chorus of the song features the so-called Whirlwind Dance or Tornado Dance made popular by the group. A majority of the music video focuses on members singing their solo lines, while other parts focus mainly on their unique dance moves and techniques. Also, in the music video, there is a topless solo focuses showing their tattoos which greatly represent the album.
There are two clothes wore by the group in filming the Music video. One is a rusty-colored fitting pants and tops, by which each member differ in clothing details. The other one is a white-colored pair of suits with large buttons locking the top and can be compared to a suit wear by members of a majorette band (see image above). The first cloth was also featured on their album's photobook.
A 23-second teaser of the music video was revealed on January 31, 2010 through YouTube, and the full music video premiered on February 3.[9] So far, Bingeul Bingeul has the most number of views on YouTube, among U-KISS music videos attracting to over 7 Million views. It garnered as much as 4x the views from their single, Man Man Ha Ni and 9x as much as views from another single, 0330.
