Bibledit

Bibledit is the general name for a number of computer programs for editing the Bible. It is a contraction of "Bible" and "edit". Bibledit is free software. It is available under the terms of the GPL, version 3 or version 2.

It runs on GNU/Linux, on the Macintosh, and on Windows.

History

Bibledit started to be developed in 2003.[1] Early versions ran on Linux. It then was ported to the Mac, and later to Windows.

Name

The word "Bibledit" is a contraction of "Bible" and "edit". The words "Bible" and "edit" together are 9 characters long. When Bibledit was first hosted on SourceForge, the length of the Unix-name for the project could be no more than 8 characters. Hence "Bible" and "edit" were contracted to "Bibledit".

This is a Bible editor that runs on the desktop.

Bibledit-Web

This is a web-based Bible editor. It runs on a Linux server. Edit the Bible from a web browser.

Bibledit-Xiphos

Bibledit-Xiphos fetches the focused passage from Bibledit-Web, and passes it on to Xiphos.[2] Xiphos will then scroll to that focused passage.

Bibledit-BibleTime

Bibledit-BibleTime fetches the focused passage from Bibledit-Web, and passes it on to BibleTime.[3] BibleTime will then scroll to that focused passage.

Bibledit-BibleWorks

Bibledit-BibleWorks fetches the focused passage from Bibledit-Web, and passes it on to BibleWorks.[4] BibleWorks will then scroll to that focused passage.

Bibledit-Paratext

Bibledit-Paratext fetches the focused passage from Bibledit-Web, and passes it on to Paratext.[5] Paratext will then scroll to that focused passage.

Bibledit-OnlineBible

Bibledit-OnlineBible fetches the focused passage from Bibledit-Web, and passes it on to the Online Bible.[6] The Online Bible will then scroll to that focused passage.
