Bianet (acronym for Bağımsız İletişim Ağı, Independent Communication Network) is an independent Turkish press agency based in Istanbul. It has been established in 2000 by journalists Nadire Mater,[1] former representative of Reporters sans frontières, and left-wing activist Ertuğrul Kürkçü,[2] and since November 2003 is tied with Inter Press Service. It is mostly funded by the European Commission through the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).[3]
