Bernie Fabiosa

Bernard "Tough Job" Fabiosa is a Filipino athlete who played basketball for the Crispa Redmanizers in the Philippine Basketball Association(PBA).[1]

Career

Fabiosa was a member of the 1974 RP Youth Team and a graduate of the University of the East. During his time with the PBA Fabiosa was a member of the 1976 and 1983 Crispa Grand Slam Team, the Mythical Second Team (1984), selected as one of the PBA's 25 Greatest Players, and a member of the 5,000 points club, 2,000 assists club and the 500 & 1,000 steals clubs. After the Crispa Redmanizers disbanded, Fabiosa played for Shell, Great Taste, Purefoods, and Pop Cola until 1992, when a collar bone injury forced him to retire for good.

He was one of the first "pure" point guards in the PBA. The original "Sultan of Swipes", he was a seven-time steals champion, four (4) with Crispa, two (2) with Shell and one (1) with Great Taste. He also topped the league in assists in 1981. He was a member of the Mythical Second Team in 1984.

In 1981 he was the league leader in assists.

Fabiosa finished his PBA career with 6,597 points (8.4 points per game), 2,837 assists (3.6 assists per game), and 1,261 steals (1.6 steals per game) in 788 games played from 1975-1991 in 19241:00 total minutes played. He converted 1,414/1876 FTs for a career average of 75.4%.

Since retirement Fabiosa has coached the Bingo Pilipino Bingonaryos in the Philippine Basketball League and been involved in the American movie industry. [citation needed]

He was inducted to the all-time PBA 25th anniversary team in the year 2000.

Personal

Originally Married to Marilyn "Mayeen "Manansala Fabiosa, and Ex-Beauty Queen 1971 Philippine's 10 Most Beatuful Filipinas and now retired Philippine Airlines Flight Purser. He has 2 Children originally from Marilyn named Magnolia "Maggie" Fabiosa and Byron John "BJ" Fabiosa. He also has a love child from Singer Malu Barry named Bernalou.

Among his friends, he considered Philip Cesar and Atoy Co as his bestfriends. They called themselves PBA back in the old times, which stands for Philip, Bernard and Atoy.

A proud Boholano, Fabiosa now resides in Los Angeles, California.
