Benjamin Adekunle Miron Adegbuyi (born January 24, 1985 in Cluj-Napoca) is a Romanian kickboxer signed to the GLORY and SUPERKOMBAT Fighting Championship promotions and a former K-1 fighter. As of 21 January 2014, Adegbuyi is ranked the #8 heavyweight in the world by LiverKick.com.[1]
Biography
Adegbuyi was born in Cluj-Napoca to a Romanian mother and Nigerian father. When he was 3 years old, he moved to Lagos, Nigeria with his family. At 8 years old, he returned to Romania with his mother and newborn sister spending his chilhood in Aiud, a small town of Transylvania.[2]
As a child, he competed in sports like karate and boxing. He is currently training at Respect Gym in the capital Bucharest.[3]
Benjamin claims the Yoruba as his father roots who is the dean of a polytechnic university in Nigeria.[4]
Career
Adegbuyi signed with K-1 in August 2012.[5][6]
Adegbuyi faced Jafar Ahmadi in a non-tournament bout at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2012 in Tokyo Final 16 on October 14, 2012.[7][8] Adegbuyi won via TKO early in the first round after Ahmadi seemingly broke his left hand.[9]
He was scheduled to fight Alexey Ignashov on November 10, 2012 in Craiova, Romania at the SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2012 Final Elimination, which is the QF of the SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2012.[10][11] However, Ignashov could not fight due to injury and was replaced by the previous year's SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix Champion, Sergei Lascenko.[12] Adegbuyi battered Lascenko, flooring him twice in the first round before the referee called a halt to the bout.[13]
Despite entering as the tournament favourite, Adegbuyi was exposed by eventual champion Pavel Zhuravlev when the Ukrainian KOed him in first round in the semi-finals at the SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2012 Final on December 22, 2012 in Bucharest.[14][15][16]
He defeated Mohamed Bellazar via first round TKO due to an injury at SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix I in Oradea, Romania on April 6, 2013.[17][18]
He rematched Jairzinho Rozenstruik at SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix II in Craiova, Romania on May 18, 2013 and won by unanimous decision.[19][20][21]
He beat Ismael Londt by unanimous decision at Slamm!! Soema Na Basi IV in Paramaribo, Suriname on August 8, 2013.[22][23]
He defeat Reamon Welboren by unanimous decision at SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix III in Botoșani, Romania on September 28, 2013. [24][25]
He rematched Pavel Zhuravlev at the SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2013 Final in Galați, Romania on December 21, 2013, winning by third round KO.[26]

Acting
Adegbuyi appeared playing the role of a fighter in action-oriented underground fighting film Forced to Fight (2011), starring Gary Daniels and Peter Weller.[27]
