While attending Virginia Tech, he formed a band, Rarae Avis, whose self-titled album was released by Hound Records in 2003.[1] He was a basement tenant of the punk house known as 'Solar Haus', when a teenager died and five others were injured after a third floor window gave way during a third floor punk show.[2] Fama also published a xeroxed poetry zine, Supermachine, named after a two-tier bike he had made, and was a critical mass bike organizer in 2006. During his undergraduate study, Fama met and began writing under poet Bob Hicok. Fama moved to New York City in 2007, one month after the Virginia Tech Shooting.
