Begum Bazar {Telugu: బేగంబజార్ } {Urdu: بیگم بازار } is the biggest commercial markets in Hyderabad, India. It is very old and largest market established during the time of Qutb Shahi rule.Begum Bazar is located half kilometer from the Naya Pul bridge in the Old City. It is an age old retail and wholesale market for household commodities. Of late, several brassware merchants have set up shop in the Begum Bazar.House old commodities of all sizes, shapes and brands at the best prizes are available. The only hitch at the bazar is the congestion and the lack of hygiene. Deals worth crores are struck daily. If you are looking for any article at the best prize then Begum Bazar is the best place.

Begum bazar also hosts the second biggest Fish Market of Hyderabad after the fish market at Musheerabad.

The adjoining Moazzam Jahi market is the largest fruit and vegetable market in the city. This market is being slowly replaced by the market at Kothapet which is there beyond Dilsukhnagar.

It is major market of Hyderabad for Gold, Silver, Commodities, Kirana, Dry Fruits, Household items etc. It is busy commercial area since retailers from all over the state come over here to buy things.

The historic Osmania General Hospital is also here.

History

Land gifted by Humda Begum ( the wife of Nizam Ali Khan Nizamul Mulk) to the merchants of Hyderabad for trade and commerce, finally developed as Begum Bazar. Now its whole sale market for kirana ang general products as well as tobacco, cloths, Chinese products, plastic house holds, paper,stationery, plastic bags, dry fruits, holi-colours, crockery,ayurvedic-unani products, kumkum, kites, ganesh idols and puja materials. which is in the hands of marwadi people. They came to Begum Bazar about 150 years back from Rajastan, invited by Nizam of that time. Interestingly, Begum Bazar is the place where the first Ganesh Mandap was establish in Hyderabad and now it spread all over A.P.

Commercial area

There are many wholesale shops which cater to all the needs of the people.It has oldest business firms like Chouthmal Mohanlal for wholesale Kirana, Satyanarayan Mithai Bhandar for Sweets and it is the biggest market in south for plastic bags with leading shops like Ashoka Plastics and Sri Vishnu Enterprises established in 1980's.It is also the South India's biggest market of tobacco products with very reputed firms like Ratanlal Hiralal Bhati, The very old establishment shop like National Electrical Works, Generators on hire from past 65years, Estd:- by late V.Vasu Dev Kurma.

Transport

The APSRTC buses connects Begum Bazar with all parts of the city.Afzal Gunj is the nearest bus stop.

The closest MMTS Train station is at Malakpet and Nampally which is nearer.
