Bauntovsky Evenkiysky District (Russian: Баунтовский эвенкийский район; Buryat: Бабанта (Баунтын) аймаг) is an administrative[1] and municipal[2] district (raion), one of the twenty-one in the Republic of Buryatia, Russia. It is located in the northeast of the republic. The area of the district is 66,816 square kilometers (25,798 sq mi).[3] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Bagdarin.[1] Population: 9,667 (2010 Census);[4] 10,907 (2002 Census);[7] 26,594 (1989 Census).[8] The population of Bagdarin accounts for 49.0% of the district's total population.[4]
Etymology
The district is named after Lake Baunt.
Geography
Most of the district's territory is located on a plateau.
