Batlagundu [pronounced 'Vathalakkundu'] ((Tamil: வத்தலக்குண்டு)) is a panchayat town in Dindigul district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The town is about an hour and a half from Kodaikanal.
Old Batlagundu is the mother village of Batlagundu.Mariamman temple at Old Batlagundu is the main goddess in this region,and the festival being held in this temple at every year is famous in this region.
The economy of the town is mostly dependent on agricultural products, and is home to a banana leaf commission, coconut powder exports, spinning mills, and other businesses. With its proximity to the foothills of the Kodaikanal mountain range, there are wholesale businesses that involve vegetables and fruits (carrots, apples, blue cabbage, tomato, and coffee) that grow in the mountains.
There are three cinema theatures available in Batlagundu. Gowri tourist home is one of the famous lodge located in Genguvarpatti road.
Demographics
In the 2001 India census,[1] Batlagundu(PIN: 624202) had a population of 22,007. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Batlagundu has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 54% of the males and 46% of females literate. 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Subiksha Trust. Its located in Oorkala samy kovil street. The trust helps the Poor and Old age people.
Parasparam Trust is a trust located a village near Batlagundu. The trust helps the semi-urban female children.
Chanard is a trust that has branches in Theni, Periyakulam, Andipatti, Kodaikanal, Bodi, and Kumbum. They are involved in helping women's self-help groups, organic farming, AIDS prevention, and waste land development.
The Vivekananda Tuition Center was started by Mr. Mohan in Old Batlagundu for the needy and poor children in that locality. This institution was started in early 2002 with an initial enrollment of 15, and now it has nearly 400 students. He boosted the Higher Secondary Passing Percentage in that locality. Career guidance is provided for the students. The institution is now registered as a Trust under the Indian Trust Act as "Swami Vivekananda Educational Service Trust".
Santhana Matha Aalayam
Santhana matha kovil (St.ANNE'S CHURCH) is located in Bethania street,Batlagundu,Dindigul-Dist,Tamilnadu.pin-624202.This Chapel is belongs to Roman Catholic Christians of Bethania street.This chapel is an ancient and re-constructed in 1990.Every Year, the month of July 25.26,St.Anne's feast will be celebrating by Street/Parish People OF Batlagundu.ANNAI THRESA ILAINGAR MANTRAM- is associated with St.Anne's Chapel.This Chapel is covered nearlly 350 families.......
Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple
The temple is situated on the banks of the Manjalaru. The presiding deity is Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal (Sri Vishnu, with his consort Laksmi on his lap). Anjaneyar sannidhi is in the main building and Sudharsanalvar sannidhi is in the prakaram(closed precincts of a temple). The priest is Mr. Srinivasa Raghavan, who is currently undertaking the developmental work of the temple.
Sri Sendraya Perumal Temple
There is an ancient temple of Sri Sendraya Perumal situated on a hill near old Batlagundu. Mr Kannan is a priest in this temple. He is involved in developmental activities like Anna Thaanam (a programme provide free meals) and building new Mandabams (halls). People of all faiths and religions visit this temple. The temple festival is held in Kottaipatti village every other year. The temple is located on the way to the Kodaikanal hills.
The name of the first Novel Writer is Shri B.R.Rajam Iyer born in Batlagundu and not Rajam Krishnan. It is to be corrected
Other temples
The Arulmigu Kottai Karuppanasamy Temple is at Viralipatti village. This temple festival is celebrated annually during the Tamil month of Aadi. The Arulmigu Sri Edamalai Mahalingam temple is situated near Kattakamanpatty village, three kilometers from Batlagundu on the way to Periyakulam.
Other ancient temples include Sendraya Perumal Koil on the hill in Old Batlagundu, Mariyamman Temple, Perumal Temple, Vishalakshi Temple, Pathrakaliyamman Temple, Kaliyamman Temple, Oorkala Samy temple, Bagavathi Amman temple, Oom Sakthi Temple, Kamakshi temple at Devadanapatti, and Anjaneyar temple near Anaipatti.
Kunnuvarankottai Kasi Visalakshi-Viswanathar Temple is in Kunnuvarankottai, the birthplace of the saintSri Sacchidananda Bharati I, the 25th Pontiff of Sringeri Sarada Peetam.
