Batik Air is a scheduled Indonesian airline which made its maiden flight on May 3, 2013. Batik Air bases its aircraft in Manado, a city on North Sulawesi to serve East Asia and also East of Indonesia.[1] It will compete with full-service airlines such as Garuda Indonesia.[2][3]

History

Lion Air, the parent company of Batik Air, created a full service airline which began operations in May 2013 using 737-900ERs. Batik Air will provide a personal TV (in-flight entertainment system) in every seat, light snacks and free meal, seat pitches of 32" and 45" for economy class and business class respectively, and free baggage allowance of 15 kg & 30 kg. The airline has also signed a commitment with Boeing to order four Boeing 777-300ER and five 787 Dreamliners for the airline, and intends to have them delivered by 2015 and 2018.[2][4][5]
