Baruipur subdivision is a subdivision of the South 24 Parganas district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of three municipalities (Baruipur, Rajpur Sonarpur and Jaynagar Mazilpur) and seven community development blocks: Baruipur, BhangarI, BhangarII, JaynagarI, JaynagarII, Kultali and Sonarpur. The seven blocks contain two census towns and 80 gram panchayats. The subdivision has its headquarters at Baruipur.

Area

Apart from the municipalities of Baruipur, Rajpur Sonarpur and Jaynagar Mazilpur, the subdivision contains two census towns and rural areas of 80 gram panchayats under seven community development blocks: Baruipur, BhangarI, BhangarII, JaynagarI, JaynagarII, Kultali and Sonarpur.[1] The two census towns are: Bhangar Raghunathpur and Uttar Durgapur.[2]

Blocks

Baruipur block

Rural area under Baruipur block consists of 18 gram panchayats, viz. Begumpur, DhapdhapiII, Mallickpur, ShankarpurII, Belegachhi, Hardhah, Nabagram, ShikharbaliI, Brindakhali, Hariharpur, RamnagarI, ShikharbaliII, Champahati, Kalyanpur, RamnagarII, DhapdhapiI, Madarhat and ShankarpurI.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Baruipur police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Piyali Town.[4]

BhangarI block

Rural area under BhangarI block consists of nine gram panchayats, viz. Bodra, Durgapur, Pranganj, ChandaneswarI, Jagulgachhi, Shanksahar, ChandaneswarII, Narayanpur and Tarda.[1] Urban area under this block consists of one census town: Bhangar Raghunathpur.[2] Bhangar police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Gobindapur.[4]

BhangarII block

Rural area under BhangarII block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Bamanhata, Bhagawanpur, Chaltaberia, Shanpukur, BenttataI, BhogaliI, PolerhatI, BenttataII, BhogaliII, PolerhatII.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Bhangar police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Bhangar.[4]

JaynagarI block

Rural area under JaynagarI block consists of 12 gram panchayats, viz. Baharu Kshetra, Dhosa Chandaneswar, Khakurdaha, Uttar Durgapur, Bamangachhi, Narayanitala, Chaltaberia, Harinarayanpur, Rajapur Korabeg, Dakshin Barasat, Jangalia and Sripur.[1] Urban area under this block consists of one census town: Uttar Durgapur.[2] Jaynagar and Kultali police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Baru.[4]

JaynagarII block

Rural area under JaynagarII block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Baishata, Futigoda, Mayahauri, Sahajadapur, Beledurganagar, Gardoani, Mayda, Chuprijhara, Manirtat and Nalgora.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Jaynagar and Kultali police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Ramkrishna Ashram.[4] mollar chak .

Kultali block

Rural area under Kultali block consists of nine gram panchayats, viz. Deulbari Debipur, JalaberiaI, Maipith Baikunthapur, Gopalganj, JalaberiaII, Gurguria Bhubaneswari, Kundakhali Godabar, MeriganjI and MeriganjII.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Kultali police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Jamtalahat.[4]

Sonarpur block

Rural area under Sonarpur block consists of 11 gram panchayats, viz. BanhooghlyI, KalikapurII, KheyadahaII, Pratapnagar, BanhooghlyII, Kamrabad, Langalberia, SonarpurII, KalikapurI, KheyadahaI and Poleghat.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Sonarpur police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Rajpur.[4]

Legislative segments

As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in West Bengal, the area under Kultali block along with four gram panchayats under the JaynagarII block, viz. Baishata, Chuprijhara, Manirtat and Nalgora, will form the Kultali assembly constituency of West Bengal. The other six gram panchayats under the JaynagarII block, the Jaynagar Mazilpur municipality and six gram panchayats under the JaynagarI block, viz. Baharu Kshetra, Dakshin Barasat, Harinarayanpur, Rajapur Korabeg, Sripur and Uttar Durgapur, will together form the Jaynagar assembly constituency. The other six gram panchayats under the JaynagarI block and nine gram panchayats under the Baruipur block, viz. Begumpur, Belegachhi, Brindakhali, Champahati, Hardhah, Nabagram, RamnagarI, RamnagarII and South Garia, will together form the Baruipur Purba assembly constituency. The other ten gram panchayats under the Baruipur block along with the Baruipur municipality will form the Baruipur Paschim assembly constituency. Wards 824 of the Rajpur Sonarpur municipality and six gram panchayats under Sonarpur block, viz. KalikapurI, KalikapurII, Langalberia, Poleghat, Pratapnagar and SonarpurII, will together form the Sonarpur Dakshin assembly constituency. The other six gram panchayats under Sonarpur block, along with wards 17 and 2533 of Rajpur Sonarpur municipality will form the Sonarpur Uttar assembly constituency. The BhangarII block and three gram panchayats under the BhangarI block, viz. Jagulgachhi, Narayanpur and Pranganj, will together define the extent of the Bhangar assembly constituency. The other six gram panchayats under the BhangarI block will be part of the Canning Purba assembly constituency. The constituencies of Kultali, Jaynagar and Baruipur Purba will be reserved for Scheduled castes (SC) candidates. The constituencies of Kultali, Canning Purba and Jaynagar will be assembly segments of the Jaynagar (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for SC candidates. The constituencies of Baruipur Purba, Baruipur Paschim, Sonarpur Uttar, Sonarpur Dakshin and Bhangar will be assembly segments of the Jadavpur (Lok Sabha constituency).[5]
