Later, these lines were amalgamated with East Indian Railway.[1] In the same year (1927), Bengal Nagpur Railway opened the 116-kilometre (72 mi) Chandil-Barkakana section to traffic.[2] The Koderma-Hazaribagh-Barkakana line is expected to be operational in 2014.[3]

Patratu-Barkakana, Barkakana-Danea and Barkakana-Ramgarh sections were electrified in 1996-97.[4]
