Barbus bynni is a species of ray-finned fish. It is usually placed in the genus Barbus, but may belong in Labeobarbus.

Location

The Barbus bynni are found in the tropical climates and freshwater. [1] They are native to the following countries:

  • Egypt
  • Eritrea
  • Ethiopia
  • Kenya
  • Sudan
  • Uganda[2]

Feeding

This Barbus bynni feeds on the following:

  • crustaceans
  • insects
  • molluscs
  • ostracods
  • small algae
  • chironomid larvae
  • organic debris[2]

Breeding

The breeding season begins about in the months of March to April. [2]

Subspecies are:

  • Barbus bynni bynni (Forsskål, 1775)
  • Barbus bynni occidentalis Boulenger, 1911 Niger Barb
  • Barbus bynni waldroni Norman, 1935

Common threats

The Barbus bynni is not in any danger of becoming an endangered species. The possible threats that could decrease its population is dams, water pollution, groundwater extraction and drought.[2]
