Barbourmeade is a 5th-class city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, in the United States. It was formally incorporated by the state assembly in 1962.[1] The population was 1,260 at the 2000 census.

It was named for Barbour Lane, which makes up its western boundary. The road was named for Thomas and Richard Barbour, pioneer settlers of the Harrods Creek area to the north.[2] Barbourmeade incorporated as a city in 1962.[3]

Geography

Barbourmeade is located at 38°18′1″N 85°35′59″W / 38.30028°N 85.59972°W / 38.30028; -85.59972 (38.300219, -85.599695)[4].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 1,260 people, 506 households, and 400 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,908.7 people per square mile (1,131.4/km²). There were 516 housing units at an average density of 1,191.2 per square mile (463.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.87% White, 2.38% Black or African American, 0.95% Asian, 0.08% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.63% of the population.

There were 506 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.7% were married couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.8% were non-families. 18.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.84.

In the city the population was spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 3.3% from 18 to 24, 19.8% from 25 to 44, 33.7% from 45 to 64, and 20.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $71,711, and the median income for a family was $78,414. Males had a median income of $56,563 versus $36,458 for females. The per capita income for the city was $32,865. About 0.5% of families and 0.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under the age of eighteen or sixty-five or over.
