Bansi is a city and a municipal board in Siddharthnagar district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. (Not to be confused with Baansi)

Overview

The city is situated at 52km from the basti and 72 km from the gorakhpur. It is the first developed town of the Siddharthnagar distric, Before Naugarh (Sidharthnagar) was declared as a new district, the proposed name of the new district around Naugarh was 'Madhavnagar'. The local municipal corporation tried to do everything possible for the development of Bansi. At that time this was an all-purpose hub the area covered by three districts Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar and Gorakhpur.Bansi is known for its educational hub having well known schools & colleges e.g. Ratan sen inter & degree college,tilak inter college,jnv basantpur,and other private school e.g. Saraswati vidya mandir, sprv,npic,eton english medium school little flower,gurukul etc.& having private polytec and one gov. polytec(in construction)and DIET. The nearst railway station is naugarh which 20 km from bansi , is the gonda-gorakhpur loop line but due to effort of honr. mp jagdambika pal, it is converted into broad gauge line . and other station is basti which is well connected to delhi,mumbai,lucknow etc. Raja Jaipratap singh is the former mla from bansi & belongs to BJP national party.

Geography

Bansi is located at the bank of river Rapti at 27°10′N 82°56′E / 27.17°N 82.93°E / 27.17; 82.93.[1] It has an average elevation of 370 metres (1213 feet)

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Bansi had a population of 35,711. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Bansi has an average literacy rate of 54%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 61% of the males and 39% of females literate. 18% of the population is under 6 years of age. The current population of Bansi city is around 80000.the city got the pollution free envoirnment. The people of bansi is very simple.mainly the middle class people is living here. this city is famous for its educational hub in Siddharth Nagar district. Mangal Bazar,Rani Ganj roadways chauraha are notable market of this town and the 3 forts spread around the city.the city is well known for his "magh mela".the famous local sweet is jalebi, khaja, barfi etc.Presently Raja JaiPratap Singh is the member of vidhansabha from Bansi electorate,elected on Bhartiye Janata Party ticket.
