Banki is a town and a Notified Area Council in Cuttack district in the state of Odisha, India.

Geography

Banki is located at 20°23′N 85°32′E / 20.38°N 85.53°E / 20.38; 85.53.[1] It has an average elevation of 48 metres (157 feet).Banki is 58 km. away from bbsr,47 km. away from ctc,35 km. away from khurda,45km away from dhenkanal and 54 km away from nayagarh.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Banki had a population of 20,1,428. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Banki has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 56% of the males and 44% of females literate. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Politics

Current MLA from Banki Assembly Constituency is Pravat Tripathy of BJD, who won the seat in State elections of 2009. Previous MLAs from this seat were Debashis Pattanaik,Pravat Tripathy who won this seat in 2000 representing BJD and in 1995 representing JD, Ghanashyam Sahoo of JD in 1990, Akshaya Kumar Pattanaik representing INC in 1985 and representing INC(I) in 1980, and Dr. Jogesh Chandra Rout of INC in 1977.[3]

Banki is part of Cuttack Lok Sabha constituency.[4]
