Bandar Sunway is a township in between Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It is situated in the district of Petaling, Selangor. It is a 5 to 10 minutes drive to Subang Jaya, USJ, Puchong and other suburbs and townships of Petaling Jaya. It is only a 20 minutes drive to the Kuala Lumpur city centre via the New Pantai Expressway.

The township is governed by the Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya.

History

The township was developed by Sunway City Group of Companies, or Sunway Group.[1] Construction of the township began in 1986. It used to be a tin mining area.

Leisure and Entertainment

Bandar Sunway has a number of accommodation options for tourists and business travellers.

Sunway Pyramid is a shopping centre opened in July 1997 as Malaysia's first themed shopping and entertainment mall. One of the mall's most easily recognised designs is the Egyptian-inspired Pyramid with a lion "standing guard" at the entrance. The rest of the building is embellished in the monumental style, complete with pseudo-hieroglyphics decorating facades, along with numerous Pharonic statuaries.

Sunway Pyramid is also one of the only shopping malls in Malaysia to have an indoor ice skating rink.

In the center of Bandar Sunway is the amusement park Sunway Lagoon, which has many different themed parks, including some of the biggest rides in Malaysia and a large water park.

Education

Bandar Sunway has also become known as a higher education hub, with two large universities in the area, namely Monash University,[2] and Sunway University, as well as other private colleges such as Sunway College and The One Academy, an accomplished art college that won the ADreline awards for 2006. There are other notable schools in Bandar Sunway which are SK Bandar Sunway, SMK Bandar Sunway and Sunway International School.

Healthcare

Healthcare in Bandar Sunway is provided by the Sunway Medical Centre, a private hospital along with Sime Darby Medical Centre (previously Subang Jaya Medical Centre) in adjacent Subang Jaya.

Religion

Bandar Sunway includes many other companies and residences not owned by the Sunway group. Places of worship include Masjid Al-Husna, which is located just opposite Sunway Pyramid and Masjid Al-Amin, which is situated near Masjid Al-Husna.

Transport

The Bandar Sunway stretch of the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) during the evening rush hour.

Bandar Sunway is well-connected to the cities of Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya and Klang via a network of highways, namely the Federal Highway, the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), the North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE) and the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP). The township is also served by an urban-suburb rail link, the Subang Jaya Komuter station.

Public transport

Bandar Sunway is accessible via Metrobus, rapidKL buses and taxis. Several RapidKL buses operate through Damansara Utama. Metrobus which operate through Damansara Utama.

Sunway Monorail also operated in Bandar Sunway from 2000 to 2007. The system has since been shut down due to the expansion of the Sunway Pyramid 2.
