The Balkan Whip Snake, Hierophis gemonensis (formerly known as Coluber gemonensis), is a species in the family Colubridae.
Geographic range
It is found in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Serbia and Montenegro and in Slovenia.
Habitat
Its natural habitats are Mediterranean-type shrubby vegetation, pastureland, plantations, and rural gardens.
Conservation status
Once very common and widespread, it is now threatened by habitat loss.
