Badvel is a constituency in YSR Kadapa District (also spelt "Cuddapah") located in the Andhra Pradesh state of India.
Statistics
Badvel is the headquarters of the Badvel assembly segment. It is located 55 km from Kadapa, the district headquarters. The area was upgraded to municipality status following the merging of four local government areas, known as Gram Panchayats on May 15, 2006 - Badvel, Guntupalli, Chengapalli and Manthenavaripalem (in addition to twelve habitations).[1] Based on the 2004 election census, the total number of voters in the Badvel constituency is 153,429.[citation needed]
History
The city is named after the famous poet Baddena, who wrote Sumathi Sathakam. It was initially named 'Baddenavolu', later changing to 'Badvolu' and then finally to 'Badvel'. The city has become the center to more than 127 villages. Badvel is the only well developed city with good educational institutes. Due to the prescience of ex-(Member of the Legislative Assembly)) Sri Narayana Reddy and ex-Minister Sri Bijivemula Veera Reddy, the city has a polytechnic, a degree college conferring B.Eds.[citation needed]
Freedom fighter Vaddamani Chidanandam won as an independent from the Badvel segment in 1952 and 1962. He constructed the Sagileru Dam (now known as the Chidanandam lower Sagileru Dam) and the Badvel Cheruvu for irrigation.
Dr. Vaddamani Shiva Rama Krishna Rao, son of Freedom Fighter Sri Vaddamani Chidanandham, followed in the footsteps of his father and was elected to the Andhra Pradesh state assembly twice (1978 & 1989). He has a large following in the Porumamilla area, where he played an important role in the development in roads and other amenities.
Religion
Hindu, Islam and Christianity are the primary religions. Of the Hindus, Balija, Reddy, Arya vysyas, and SCs are the most common. Telugu is the main language. Hindi, Urdu and English are the other languages spoken.

Library
The Badvel branch library was founded on 8 November 1956. Initially it was in Brahmana veedhi (meaning street in Telugu).
Post office
Postal services in Badvel started in 1954 and were initially operated from a rented house that belonged to freedom fighter Handi Bagh Sathya Narayana. On 16 November 1994, it moved to its own building on Mydukur Road. The postcode of Badvel is 516227.
R.T.C.
On June 23, 1986, the first Badvel R.T.C. services started with 29 buses. Currently, buses are available to all the major cities of South India like Hyderabad, Chennai, Tirupathi, Vijayawada, and Bangalore.
Fire department
On 4 March 1984, the Badvel fire station services were started. On 2 October 1987, it moved to its own building on Sidhavatam road.
Police station
Before 1807, the Badvel Police station was established. In 1994, the Badvel police station was divided into two circles. In 1921, the Badvel sub-jail was started. In 1986, the first love marriage was done here.
Education in Badvel
In 1924, Sigasani Lakshumya started a small school near Veerabadhra Swamy temple. [citation needed] In 1966, it moved to ‘Kolaparthi vari sathram’ and later became Sathram Badi.
In 1927, the main school started in Kota veedhi with classes from 1st to 8th grade. In 1945, it added a high school curriculum. In 1948, the first SSLC exams were held here. In the year 1952, it moved to the present Z.P. Boys High School. This place was donated by Madallapalli Venkata Subbaiah who was the first president of the high school.
In 1964, due to the effort of Ex. M.L.A Bommu Rama Reddy & his wife Ramasubama, the Girls High School was started. Between 1924-64, all management of the schools were taken by the government.
In 1972, due to the effort of Ex. Minister B. Veera Reddy, Sri Kanyaka Parameshwari Jr. College was started.[citation needed] Similarly, B.V.R Degree College and B.Ed College were started by him in 1979 and 1984, respectively.
Three Degree colleges namely S.V.B.R, S.R.N.B and Chaitanya and a P.G affiliated college offering M.Sc chemistry (At SRNB) exist in Badvel.
Due to the effort of Ex. MLA V. Siva Rama Krishniaha, the Polytechnic College was started in 1981 near Polerama Temple.
The first public school with a Central syllabus, Noble Public School, was established by Mr. Shankar Reddy. It was later renamed and converted to the state syllabus after the year 2000.
An engineering college in Badvel at D Agraharam village was started by USA NRI, Pala Venkata Subbaiah for the academic year 2009-10. He belongs to the Madhavaram of Kadapa district. The Veerabrahmendra Institute of Technology includes courses of EEE, CSE, ECE and CIVIL. They are affiliated to JNTU Ananthapur and approved by AICTE.
There are number of primary government schools and two high schools, including one for girls. Recently, two corporate schools were also established.

- Narayana e-techno school & Jr college in Teluguganga road.
NRI Sri Pala Venkata Subbaiah founded an engineering college in Badvel for the academic year 2009-10 to provide education to rural students. The college name changed to ACHARYA COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING (ACE), and is approved by AICTE and JNTU Anantapur.
Political structure
Freedom Fighter Vaddmani Chidanandam, father of former MLA Dr V. Sivaramakrishna Rao, won as an independent from the Badvel segment in 1952 and 1962. He constructed the Sagileru Dam near Porumamilla and Badvel Cheruvu, which provided irrigation. The late Sri Bijivemula Veera Reddy, a leader from Kadapa, worked as a Cabinet minister in the governments of NTR, Chandrababu Naidu for three terms. He was elected as an MLA from Badvel six times. He was born into an agricultural family in China's Kesam Palli village, located 5 km from Badvel. His brother-in-law, Gajulapalli Narayana Reddy, who is a native of Baakarapeta, who also served as a Sarpanch of Chennampalli, and His cousin Gangasani SeshaReddy, Who is a native of Thippanapalli, who served as a Sarpanch of Thippanapalli,was influential in his early political success.
Although he received no formal education past the 5th grade, he founded numerous educational institutions like BVR dgree college, BVR College of Education, BVR Junior College, Kanyaka Parameswari High School and BVR Teacher Training Course. BVR Degree College is one of the best colleges in Kadapa and it has maintained good educational standards since its founding.[citation needed] Dr. V. Sivaramakrishna Rao, was elected an MLA for the Badvel constituency twice. He was a close follower of former CM Dr YS Rajasekehar Reddy and served as a doctor in Porumamilla before beginning a career in politics.
Mrs. Kamalamma is the current MLA. The constituency became a reserved seat for SCs due to the last delimitation process. C. Govinda Reddy of Congress (I) previously served as an MLA from 2004–2009. The delimitation process will not occur again until 2026, based on historical precedents, so the Badvel constituency will continue to have a SC MLA irrespective of the parties in the poll.
The late Sri Gownipuram Subba Raju, the well known leader from Badvel, worked as a Thaluk president for thirty five years continuously. He was born into a respectable family in Badvel (Raju Gari Vedhi). Later, his son Late Gownipuram Shivaji Raju is an honest and successful Sarpanch for Badvel.
The late Sri Singasaani Parandhamaiah Garu, served as a successful Badvel Grama Panchayat Sarpanch, more than two decades.
The municipal elections were conducted for the first time in June 2008, in a newly formed municipality named Badvel in Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh State, India. The municipality was the result of the merging of three surrounding grama-panchayats, namely Badvel, Gunthapalle and Madakalavaripalle in the year 2007. The majority of wards were won by Congress, which was led to Munaiah as municipal chairman, singasani gurumohan is the vice-chairman and Kuruguntla Narasimha Naidu as municipal TDP opposition leader.

Badvel is an assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh. Currently it is reserved for SC's.
Panchayats
Badvel Grama Panchayat
Badvel grama panchayat was started in 1936. The first president was G. Ram Raju; he held the office for 16 years. In 1958, it was announced as a Major panchayat with 22 wards.
Madakalavari Palli panchayat
Established in 1958, it became Major constituency Panchayat in 1968 with 18 wards. In 6 December 1985, it moved to the building at TTD Kalyanamandapam back side.
Guntapalli panchayat
The Guntapalli Panchayat was established on 15 August 1955. On 27 June 1979, it was announced as a Major Panchyat with 14 wards.
Significant places
Shivalayam Temple is a famous landmark located in the hills. It became famous during the period of Sri Krishnadevarayalu and the surrounding hills have become costly residential areas. The statue is very long and penetrates into the earth. There is a secret swarangam (way) that leads into the Badvel cheruvu (15 km far awar). Brahmamgari Mattam is located 30 kilometers from Badvel. Sree Potuluri Veera Brahmamendra Swami, known as the 'Nostradamus of India' wrote Kalagnanam, which contain his prophesies. There is Sekhar picture palace(Estd 1945) one of the oldest cinema theater in Nellore Road.
The Sri Lankamalleswara Wildlife Sanctuary is closer to the villages of Jogireddy Gari Palli and Siddugari Palli. This forest is famous to the critically endangered Jerdon's Courser Rhinoptilus bitorquatus locally known as Kalivi kodi. This forest was declared as a sanctuary soon after the rediscovery of this bird in 1986 near Redipalli village. This bird has only been found in this wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary is named after the Sri Lankamalleswaraswami temple located inside it. This temple was built by King Janamejaya and is located close to a waterfall.
One of the oldest Lakshmi Venkateswara swami temple at Lakshmi Palem which is located near to Badvel.
Samartha Sadhguru Sri Kasinayana is a modern Indian Sadhguru. He was born in Bedusupally Village, in between Badvel Mandal and Seetharamapuram Mandal, Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh to Smt. Kasimma and Sri Subba Reddy. During childhood, he was inspired by Guru Athiracha Guruvaiah Swamy and traveled the entire stretch from Kasi to Kanyakumari.
Sri Govinda Swamy Mattam and Sri Meenakshi Narmadeswara temple exist. Palugurallapalle, B.Mattal Mandal Badwel is an historic temple from the 16th century.
Sairam Temple is one of the famous temples in Badvel. It is located near Veera Reddy Degree College.
Siddaihgari Mattam, Siddaiah was a student of Sree Potuluri VeeraBrahmam guru. It is located near Brahmamgari Mattam.
Siddamma Talli Peranttallu is one of the famous Durga Matha Temples, located about 3 km from Badvel. The temple was established by The late Smt. Somesula Lakshumma followed by her son and daughter-in-law Late Sri Somesula Subba Rayudu and Smt. Somesula Nagabhushanamma.
SriVasavi Kanyakaparameshwari temple is one of the well-known temples and is located at Ammavarishala street. During the festivals, all the people from Badvel municipality converge here to celebrate. This is especially evident during DASARA festival of nine days. The Srimatkanyakaparameswari temple is near Gandhi statue near Ammavarisala street. Badvel is very famous in launching of a big idol of Vinyaka during the festival Vinayaka Chaturthi at four roads junction. The great poetess Molla was born in Gopavaram mandal and her statue was inaugurated at Madakalavari Palli crossroad. Churches are present in Nellore road Siddavatam road and Mydukuru road.
Saibaba temple at Teluguganga colony, Ammavarisala in Porumamilla road, Veerabhadraswami temple in Porumamilla road, Sri Anjaneya Swamy temple and Lord Shiva temple near Nagula Cheruvu Katta and another Shiva temple at Nellore road at Ruparam Pet, Sri Govinda Swamy mattam and Sri Meenakshi Narmadeswara temple in Palugurallapalle, B.Mattam Mandal are very old and historic temples of 16th century.
Kalasapadu is one of the famous villages in Badvel Taluka.
Rajarajeswari Temple Andhra Pradesh is located near to Badvel.
