"Badman" is a song of hip hop-dance-pop genre performed by the South Korean male idol music group B.A.P. It was released as a digital single on August 6, 2013 under the record label of TS Entertainment and distributing label of LOEN Entertainment.[1] It is the last of the three promotional singles to be unveiled after "Coffee Shop" and "Hurricane", from their third EP Badman which was released on August 6, 2013.[2]
Production and background
The song is written and composed by the music producer duo of Kang Jiwon and Kim Kibum, who have previously worked on successful hits with other artists from record label of TS Entertainment, including Secret for "Magic", "Shy Boy", and "Starlight Moonlight", as well as B.A.P themselves for "Warrior", "Power", "One Shot" and most recently "Coffee Shop" another track from the same EP as "Badman".[3] The B.A.P member, leader and resident rapper of the group, Bang Yong Guk confirmed his part in writing the song through a media outlet. "I thought it was unfortunate that you always hear about criminals every time you turn on the news making society feel scary and unsafe. I wanted to bring awareness. I feel that there are so many big issues that we should not forget about yet we forget them so easily. I felt that no one else would convey these messages about society if we didn't do it..." said Yong Guk.[4]
Music video
It was revealed that B.A.P had travelled to USA to shoot the scenes for music video of the song, visiting several iconic places including the city of Detroit in Michigan.[5] An estimated hundred extras were brought in for the filming and the music video was said to be directed by Hong Won Ki Won of ZanyBros.[6] A teaser preview of the music video was uploaded on the official YouTube channel of TS Entertainment on August 1, 2013.[7] Five days later, along with the online release of the Badman, the full music video was unveiled on the same channel.[6]
Release
The title of the song was revealed on July 28, 2013, along with the track list, cover art and release date for their third Korean EP of the same name.[8] In the following dates, several individual concept shots and group teaser images were unveiled.[4] "Badman" was not released as a separate digital single like its predecessor singles "Coffee Shop" and "Hurricane", however, all three songs were included in EP. "Badman" was chosen as the title track and lead single for the promotional activities following the release of the mini-album on August 6, 2013 under the record label of TS Entertainment and distributing label of LOEN Entertainment.[1]
