History

The school was founded in 1969, supported by the B.U.I.L.D. network, and was originally housed at 33 East Ferry Street, and was exclusively a school for African-American students. Later it moved to School 32 on Clinton Street, and later to the former Genesee-Humboldt Junior High School, where it is housed today. At this time, it began admitting seventh and eighth grade students. In 1977, the school was ordered to admit white students and became a magnet school.[1]
