BFM TV (pronounced: [be ɛf ɛm te ve], also written BFMTV) is a news channel based in France and available globally via digital television, cable and satellite. It is currently the most watched news network in France.

History

The BFM TV project was officially launched on December 14, 2004 by NextRadioTV group.

It was accepted by the Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel on May 5, 2005 and the channel started broadcasting in the evening of November 28, 2005.

The ratings continuously increased and the network is the most watched news channel in France since June 2008. With a 1.8 national share (mid-2012), it greatly exceeds its first competitor, I-Télé (0.7 national share).

As the ratings and the advertising revenues increased, the budget of the network peaked at 50 million euros in 2011, compared to 15 million in 2006.

BFM is an acronym of Business FM, the original name of BFM Business. The Chairman and CEO is Alain Weill since 2005.[1]
