Athersley Recreation F.C. is an English football club based in Athersley, in Barnsley in South Yorkshire. The club is a member of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

History

Athersley Recreation was formed in 1979 as Athersley North Juniors [1] and in 1997 they joined the Sheffield and Hallamshire County Senior League. They won back-to-back promotions and were in the top division for the 1999–2000 season and were champions of the Premier Division at their first attempt. Between 2004 and 2012 the club enjoyed a consistent run of success, finishing either first or second in each of those seasons, winning the league on five occasions. The club successfully applied to join the Northern Counties East League in 2012.[2]
