Atacama Fault

The Atacama Fault is major geological fault in Chilean Atacama desert that runs a length of roughly 800 km in a north-south direction and exhibits current seismicity. The fault extends roughly from Iquique in the north to Copiapó in the south. Parts of the Pan-American Highway run through the main trace of the fault.
