The Ashland Mill Bridge was a lenticular pony truss bridge over the Pachaug River in Griswold, Connecticut that was built in 1886 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company.[1][2]
The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.[1]
The bridge served the millyard of the Ashland Cotton Company, in the Jewett City section of Griswold. It crossed a millrace on a skew angle. The bridge was 65 feet long and consists of four panels.[2]
In 1999, the bridge was closed to traffic and was included in a town park. Expectations then were that the bridge would be re-opened for pedestrian use within the park.[2]
Veteran's Memorial Park, located in Griswold's burrough of Jewett City still holds the millrace on the Pachaug River where the bridge was located, as well as the building that once housed the business offices of the Ashland Cotton Company, according to the town's website. Today, the bridge is gone. A photo of it along with the now-available pedestrian bridge can be seen on the City of Griswold's website.
