Arlington Transit (ART) is a bus transit system that operates in Arlington County, Virginia, and is managed by the county government. It includes part of the Pike Ride service along Columbia Pike, shared with WMATA. Most of its services are designed to connect city neighborhoods with nearby Metro stations. ART, under contract with the neighboring City of Falls Church, ran that municipality's GEORGE bus system from 2009 to 2010, which had served as a feeder to Metrorail stations at the east and west ends of that City, until the city's suspension of the service due to budget constraints.[2]

Fares

ART's fares are $1.50 for riders using cash and the SmarTrip card or Students, Senior Citizens and Disable only pay $0.75. As of January 4, 2009, ART no longer issues or accepts paper transfers. Riders must use a SmarTrip card to get the rail-to-bus discount or to transfer free from bus to bus. Starting September 3, 2013, students of Arlington Public Schools that attend a middle or high school may obtain an iRide Smartrip Card that gives a $0.75 discount for students of Arlington County. It is available Ballston, Rosslyn Crystal City, Shirlington and all other commuter stores. (http://www.commuterpage.com/pages/tools-resources/commuter-store-commuter-direct/#store_locations) Students must present a student ID and a document with his or her name and address or just a DMV ID. The card expires on the student's 19th birthday and can be used on any regional bus such as MetroBus.

The discount is only for ART Buses. http://www.commuterpage.com/pages/special-programs/iride-for-arlington-teens/student-iride-smartrip-card/iride-smartrip-card-faq/
