Archer High School[1] is a public high school in Lawrenceville, Georgia, USA and a part of Gwinnett County Public Schools. Archer High School is a new high school that opened in the 2009-10 school year. The school is named after longtime Gwinnett County teacher and coach Benjamin Vernon Archer. [citation needed] The school officially opened on Monday, August 10, 2009, with enrollment topping approximately 1,200 students. Archer High School is made up of students from Grayson High School, Central Gwinnett High School, and Dacula High School. The Archer cluster consists of Harbins Elementary, Cooper Elementary, Lovin Elementary, McConnell Middle, and Archer High School. Archer High School is also the largest cluster within Gwinnett County. As of the 2010-2011 school year the school has an enrollment of 1,677 students.

Athletics

In the first year, 2009-2010, Archer High School offered a varsity team for all sports, excluding football, due to GHSA rules. Now, however, Football also has a varsity team. Although the Tigers were beat twice by their rival Mountain View High School in their first season the Tigers made a comeback to beat the bears 17-13 at Mountain View's Stadium during their second season. [2] In athletics, the three rivals of the Archer Tigers are the Bears of Mountain View High School, the Black Knights of Central Gwinnett High School and the Falcons of Dacula High School. In their inaugural year, the school competed in Region 8-AAA of GHSA. In the 2010-2011 school year, Archer High School entered Region 8-AAAAA to join their rivals Central Gwinnett, Dacula and Grayson High Schools. Other schools they compete against in the region include Berkmar, South Gwinnett, Shiloh, Parkview and Brookwood High Schools.[3][4] Archer has also already had eleven teams go to a state tournament: girls' cross-country, varsity competition cheerleading, wrestling, swimming, girl's softball, girl's basketball, men's basketball, men's tennis, men's cross country, volleyball and football. Archer's first state champion was a female swimmer, sophomore Lydia Jones, who won the 50 Freestyle swim in February 2011. Though the school is smaller in numbers than most in Gwinnett County, they are slowly building up their athletic program which is shown by teams winning games, making it to state level competitions and bumping up the GHSA level from competing on a 3-A level to a 5-A level. Additionally, Earnest Alexander won an individual state championship in wrestling while the team placed 3rd while the softball team earned the first team state championship in 2012 as the school moved up to compete in Region 8-AAAAAA.
