Amuda (Arabic: عامودا 'Āmūdā, Kurdish: Amûdê) is a town in Al Hasakah Governorate in northeastern Syria. Amuda has a mostly Kurdish population with a significant Assyrian population.[1][2] On November 13, 1960, the village was the site of a tragedy in which 152 children were killed in a fire at a movie theatre.[3]

As of 20th July 2012, the area has come under the control of the Popular Protection Units (commonly known as YPG).[4] According to Fawzi Shangal, the leader of the Kurdish Accord Party in Syria, the city fell without any major clashes as the forces of the Syrian government withdrew from the area.[5]
