Gulf Cup of Nations

He has been in the national squad since 2003, and he first showed his talent during the 2003 Gulf Cup of Nations, scoring a goal against the Arabian giants Saudi Arabia.

During the 2004 Gulf Cup of Nations, Al Hosni scored a total of 4 goals. A brace each against Iraq and Bahrain hence helping his country to reach the final 4 for the first time. But Oman lost in the final to the hosts, Qatar in a penalty shootout. He achieved the award for the "Best Player" of the competition.

Amad scored 2 goals in the 2007 Gulf Cup one against U.A.E and another against Kuwait. This was the second time when Oman reached to the finals but again they lost to the hosts, UAE in a penalty shootout

Finally in 2009, Amad helped his team to win their first ever Gulf Cup of Nations trophy. He scored only 1 goal in the 2009 Gulf Cup of Nations against Iraq which Oman eventually won 4-0.

Amad scored one and the only goal of Oman in the 2010 Gulf Cup against Bahrain. Oman failed to qualify the group stage.

AFC Asian Cup

Amad represented the national team in both the 2004 and 2007 Asian Cup wearing the number 20 jersey. He scored a total of 3 goals in the 2004 Asian Cup which included a brace against Iran and a goal against Thailand. But Oman failed to qualify the group stage as they stood third in their group.

He again helped his team to qualify for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup. In the tournament, Oman won 2 points in 2 draws against Australia and Iraq.

FIFA World Cup qualification

Al-Hosni has made a number of appearances for the Oman national football team including 6 qualifying matches for the 2006, 7 for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and 15 for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.[2]

Amad scored a total of 2 goals in the 2006 World Cup qualification including one against India and the other against Singapore. He again scored a brace in the 2010 World Cup qualification against Thailand. Amad scored a total of 3 goals in the 2014 World Cup qualification including two goals against Myanmar and a goal against Australia in a crucial home match which eventually helped Oman to qualify for the fourth round. Oman entered the last game of group play with a chance to qualify for at least the playoff-round, but a 1-0 loss to Jordan eliminated them from contention.
