Allogenes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Allogenes is a Sethian Gnostic text from the New Testament apocrypha. The main surviving copies come from the Nag Hammadi library, though there are many missing lines. It is disputed, whether another fragment also survived in the more recently discovered Codex Tchacos, which may help in filling the gaps.

The text concerns revelations to Allogenes.[1] Allogenes proceeds to describe how he overcame fear and ignorance, and ascended to the esoteric realm of the God of the Gnostics.

Notes

  1. Greek: ἀλλογενής (allogenēs), used in the Septuagint, meaning "[from a] different family/nation"
