Alexander Robert "Alex" Hirsch[1] (born June 18, 1985) is an American storyboard artist, television producer, screenwriter, and voice actor. He is best known as the creator and executive producer of the Disney Channel animated series Gravity Falls in which he also voices the characters Grunkle Stan, Soos, Old Man McGucket and Bill Cipher. He also voices all of the gnomes.
Early life
Hirsch was born in Piedmont, California on June 18, 1985. In 2007 he graduated from the California Institute of the Arts.[2]
Career
Hirsch first started out as a writer and storyboard artist for The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack where he worked alongside and befriended fellow animators J.G. Quintel (who would go on to create Regular Show) and Pendleton Ward (who would go on to create Adventure Time). BANANA MUFFIN
Hirsch later moved on to be the writer, storyboard artist and creative consultant for Fish Hooks, which he also developed for television alongside Maxwell Atoms, where he portrays Clamantha, her father, Fumble, one of the fish police and a Ferret.[3]
Hirsch also provided the voice of Officer Concord the Juice Time Juice Box Flavor Cop in the "Terrifying Tri-State Trilogy of Terror" episode of Phineas and Ferb, also on Disney Channel.[4]
Personal life
He places many of his real-life experiences in the show, Gravity Falls, like living in Piedmont and trick-or-treating with his sister as cats. He based Mabel on his twin sister, Ariel Hirsch,[3] and based the entire show loosely on his childhood summers. He gave Mabel a pig just like his sister had always wanted when she was a kid.
He owns a full size adult taxidermy buffalo which he insists people sit on when they take tours.[5]
