Alex Harvey (born 7 September 1988 in St.-Ferreol, Québec) is a Canadian cross country skier who has competed since 2005. Harvey is also a member of the Quebec National Cycling Team.
Athletic career
In 2009 Harvey finished third both in the (Team sprint: Whistler Olympic Park, and the 50 km: Trondheim). He also competed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, finishing fifth in the 4 x 10 km, 22nd in the 15 km + 15 km double pursuit, 28th in the individual sprint, and 36th in the 15 km events.
In the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, Harvey finished fourth in the team sprint with teammate Devon Kershaw. This is the best placing ever for Canadian men in an Olympic cross-country competition. In the men's 4 x 10 km relay, Harvey and Canada finished seventh.
At the 2011 Nordic Junior Worlds, Harvey won the 30 km pursuit race.[1]
At the 30 km pursuit in the 2011 World Championships Harvey took the lead early on in the freestyle portion of the race, but lost the lead with 2 km to go finishing at 13th place. Three days later, he won gold medal in the team sprint together with Devon Kershaw. At the men's 50 km freestyle Harvey finished fifth, after falling in the Feed Zone after 3 kilometres.
Personal life
Harvey's father Pierre Harvey took part in the 1976 and 1988 Olympic Games in the 100 km Time Trial Cycling and Cross Country Skiing events, respectively.
