Al-Safira District

As-Safira (Arabic: السفيرة / ALA-LC: as-Safīrah) is a Syrian district (mantiqah) administratively belonging to Aleppo Governorate. At the 2004 Census it had a population of 178,293. Its administrative centre is the city of Al-Safira.

The main towns are Al-Safira and Khanasir. The main economic activity is agriculture. Since ancient times, Al-Safira was a fertile area where grains and other crops were harvested.

Divisions

The district of as-Safira is divided into 5 sub-districts or Nāḥiyas (population according to 2004 official census):

  • Al-Safira nahiyah (ناحية السفيرة): population 132,658.[1]
  • Khanasir nahiyah (ناحية خناصر): population 17,618.[2]
  • Banan nahiyah (ناحية بنان): population 17,193.[3]
  • Al-Hajib nahiyah (ناحية الحاجب): population 10,408.[4]
  • Tell Arn nahiyah (ناحية تلعرن)(was part of the Al-Safira nahiyah until 2009).
