30840 Jackalice

30840 Jackalice (1991 GC2) is a main-belt asteroid named in honor of Jack B. Newton and his wife Alice for his astrophotographic accomplishments and their work as a team in astronomy outreach. This minor planet was discovered on April 15, 1991 by Carolyn S. Shoemaker and David H. Levy. The naming citation reads:

Jack Newton (b. 1942) is a Canadian astrophotographer credited with some of the most famous ground-based photographs ever taken. His work, from the sun to a gravitational lens, has appeared in major news magazines. His wife Alice has long assisted him in every one of his outreach efforts, in both Canada and the U.S.
