2Tuff
2Tuff Crew is a collective founded in 1994 to bring drum'n'bass music to Washington, DC and establish a d'n'b scene. 2Tuff Productions has been active ever since throwing one-off events, weekly parties and taking their sound on road nationally and worldwide. The 2Tuff Crew was founded by Andrew Cerutti and DJ Slant in 1994. Soon after, DJ Stress, MC Mecha, and MC Nes joined 2Tuff. 2Tuff presently consists of DJs SLANT, BJOO and JAHWEI. 2Tuff held a Wednesday night residency at Red for many years, most recently hosting the event "The Rudebwoy Shuffle." They also hosted one of the first all drum & bass weekly events, in the Washington, DC area, called "Urban Space" which consistently booked international drum & bass DJs.
1995 saw 2Tuff throw a series of underground warehouse parties which were the first ever drum and bass events in the Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia areas. After throwing a number of events at a Warehouse north of Howard University at Georgia Avenue and Lamont Street, 2Tuff joined forces with Lonnie Fisher of Ultraworld in Baltimore and threw the first 3 drum and bass events in Baltimore. These events were the first drum and bass events on the East Coast to feature large line-ups with talent from London, the birthplace of drum and bass music. DJ Trace was a regular at these events which featured the US debut of numerous artists such as Grooverider, MC GQ and MC Rymetyme. Other artists featured at these early events included DJ Rap, LTJ Bukem, MC Conrad, DB, Dieselboy, Gunsmoke, Dieselboy, Karl K, and others.
Currently, Andrew Cerutti works with Washington, DC bands Fort Knox Five and See-I. MC Mecha has co-produced with Impulse and Rob F under the guise of Sinthetix. DJ Stress is currently a resident DJ at The Secret Night of Science in New York City. Dj Slant under the 2Tuff title is currently Djing and promoting Drum and Dass as part of a resurgence in D.C Drum and Bass.
