Quote from MPI 8543: "Named in honor of Iosif Shklovsky {1916 -- 1985}, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, professor at Moscow University and member of the staff at the Space Research Institute. A brilliant popularizar of astronomy, he had also made substantial contributions to research of Solar corona, Galactic radio emission and various cosmic objects."
