The 1986 Masters (Also known as the 1986 Nabisco Masters for sponsorship reasons)[1] was held in Madison Square Garden, New York City, United States between 1 December and 5 December 1986. It was the year-end championship of the 1986 Nabisco Grand Prix tour. It was also the first edition where the round robin format, which is now associated with the event, was reintroduced. As a result the singles field was halved from 16 down to 8 competitors. Ivan Lendl retained the Masters title as he won it for a fourth time. Lendl defeated Becker in straight sets in a repeat of the 1985 Masters final which took place earlier in the year, in January. In the doubles competition Stefan Edberg and Anders Järryd successfully defended the title.
