1921 (Ayirathi Thollayirathi Irupathi Onnu) is a 1988 Malayalam film directed by I. V. Sasi,[1] written by T. Damodaran, and starring Mammootty, Madhu, Parvathy, Seema, and Urvasi.[2] The film won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value of that year.[3]

Plot

The movie deals with the Malabar rebellion, more popularly known as the Mappila Lahala. Mammootty plays the role of Kadhir, a leader of the anti-British movement in the Malabar region.

1921 was a Blockbuster at the box office because of its patriotic story telling in a different way. It was a blockbuster of the year 1988 after Chithram and Oru CBI Diary Kurippu and Aaryan [citation needed]

Soundtrack

The soundtrack of the film was composed by Shyam. The lyrics were adapted from traditional Malayalam poems by Moyinkutty Vaidyar etc. India's national song Vande Mataram is also featured in the movie with vocals by K. S. Chithra.
