  • 25 February - £11,000 collected at church doors in Dublin to finance the Pope's defence against Italian nationalists. £80,000 collected nationwide. The equivalent of several millions in today's Euros.[1]
  • Deasy's Land Act,[2] intended to reform tenants' rights.
  • Construction begins on the Roman Catholic church that will become St Peter's Cathedral, Belfast.
  • The Catholic Ballaghaderreen Cathedral is completed.
  • 11 November - Kildare Street Club, Dublin, destroyed by fire.
  • 21–23 November - The Partry evictions, County Mayo. Sixty eight families turned out of their houses by Thomas Plunket, Church of Ireland Bishop of Tuam.[3]
