17856 Gomes (1998 KL1) is a main-belt asteroid. It was discovered May 18, 1998, by the LONEOS project at Lowell Observatory's Anderson Mesa site. It is named for Rodney Gomes da Silva (1954– ), who "has produced a series of seminal works on minor planets..."[1]
